"Citizens are now able to send their tax return over the Internet from any PC with a reasonably modern browser, so people can use it from the library or work, and indeed can use different PCs at different times if they don't want to complete the tax return in one go."

Earlier this year, the United
Kingdom's HM Revenue & Customs online tax-filing service processed
its two-millionth return through applications built with our transactional
applications architecture. We're proud of this achievement and think
it's one of the best examples of how EzGov Europe solutions are working
for government — and citizens.
In fact, EzGov Europe has found that revenue collection is a good place for government to start in offering online applications because once our revenue collection software solution has been implemented the initial investment can be leveraged many times over.
Case
In Point: HM Revenue & Customs online tax filing
HM Revenue & Customs is responsible for providing an effective and fair tax service to UK citizens and businesses. One of their objectives under a wide-ranging government remit to provide online services to citizens, is to provide a nationwide electronic tax filing system for individual taxes (Self Assessment) and payroll taxes (Pay As You Earn) using an efficient and user-friendly system.
HM Revenue & Customs selected EzGov Europe to deliver the two online tax-filing applications, one for individual citizen tax filing and another for payroll tax filing. Their decision was based on the fact that our software had the high-value, low-risk benefits they sought. Moreover, our iterative development and implementation processes would further reduce time and risk elements. A layer of custom code was built over the transactional architecture components to tailor the solutions to suit the unique needs of HM Revenue & Customs. A gateway application was built — known as the UK Government Gateway Interface System (GGIS), which receives, validates and processes the files from the EzGov Europe online filing system and from all third-party vendor packages. GGIS also provides integration with the existing HM Revenue & Customs mainframe computers for an end-to-end solution. EzGov Europe created a hosting environment that guarantees very high degrees of uptime. This fulfilled the requirement that the solution should be readily available to users.
